Bursary Program

Professional Development Bursaries for Apprentices from Equity Priority Groups

The Canadian Apprenticeship Foundation Bursary Program is designed provide opportunities for apprentices from equity priority groups to access professional development at conferences. The bursary will be used to cover registration fees and associated travel expenses. In exceptional circumstances, the Bursary Program may consider applications from individuals who are facing systemic or financial barriers that are impacting their ability to complete their apprenticeships. 


The Canadian Apprenticeship Foundation may partner with other organizations to provide bursary management support.

YWE Summit Bursary 2026

The Young Women in Energy (YWE) Summit Bursary

The Young Women in Energy (YWE) Summit Bursary supports equity-deserving professionals working in Alberta’s energy sector to participate in the YWE Summit (February 26-27, 2026).

This bursary is made possible through a partnership between Young Women in Energy (YWE) and the Canadian Apprenticeship Foundation.


  • YWE is the funding partner and sets the strategic intent of the bursary.
  • The Foundation serves as the independent administrator, responsible for outreach, application intake, eligibility screening, selection coordination, and disbursement.
     

Together, we are committed to advancing equity, access, and leadership development for individuals who are often under-supported despite being central to the workforce.


Purpose of the Bursary

This bursary is designed to support individuals who identify as being in the “missing middle” of their career—those who:

  • Are no longer early-career
  •  Are contributing meaningfully to the sector
  • Have limited access to advancement pathways, sponsorship, or leadership development opportunities
     

By supporting attendance at the YWE Summit, this bursary aims to:

  • Increase access to professional networks
  • Support career sustainability and advancement
  • Strengthen diverse leadership across Alberta’s energy sector


Bursary Details

  • Number of bursaries available: 2
  • Value: Up to approximately $2,500 per bursary
  • Eligible expenses may include:
     
    • Summit registration
    • Accommodation
    • Travel (economy fare)
    • Other reasonable participation-related costs
       

Note: Funds are administered directly by the Foundation in accordance with its financial and gift-acceptance policies. 
Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Identify as Indigenous, a woman, or non-binary
  • Are currently employed in Alberta’s energy sector
  • Identify as being in the “missing middle” of their career
    (not early career, and without a clear or supported advancement pathway)
  • Are able to attend the YWE Summit in February 2026


Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by the Canadian Apprenticeship Foundation for eligibility and completeness. Selection is based on alignment with bursary intent, demonstrated impact, and benefit to the applicant’s professional journey.
 

All applicant information will be kept confidential and used solely for the purposes of this bursary.
